Welmar - A10

Upright Piano

We are very proud to offer this lovely modern upright piano by the highly respected British manufacturer, Welmar.

Welmar was established in 1925 by Whelpdale, Maxwell & Codd Ltd. (WMC). Welmar had a well-deserved reputation for building very high-quality, stable pianos with a very fine touch and tone.

WMC was established in 1876 and imported Blüthner pianos from Leipzig, Germany to sell in the UK. The production of Welmar pianos began in 1919 at Cremona Ltd until WMC opened their own factory in Clapham, South London, in 1934.

WMC enjoyed a close working relationship with Blüthner and incorporated many characteristics and designs (otherwise unique to Blüthner) into the Welmar piano range. Welmar pianos were produced using a lightly-ribbed soundboard which was modeled on those found in Blüthners, with the scaling and tension of the strings, together with the design of their frames and bridges to ensure the highest quality of tone. Welmar pianos have always been appreciated by students and teachers alike because they were built with the Blüthner tone in mind, by craftsmen devoted to the art of piano-building.

The use of 'royal blue' felt, known in the trade as"Blüthner Blue", on Welmar pianos is symbolic of the relationship between WMC and Blüthner. During the reconditioning process, our Welmar pianos are always decorated with the correct blue to honor the consortium between the two manufacturers.

It is not surprising that the demand for reconditioned Welmar pianos at Sykes & Sons has remained strong. This Welmar has enjoyed a life of little use and regular care since it was purchased by the previous owners, brand new, in 1985.

The A10 is one of the larger models of the Welmar range. Housed in a beautifully proportioned satin mahogany case, this Welmar piano offers a full 88 note keyboard with a superb quality of sound and a wide dynamic range; typical of Welmar pianos. This Welmar also boasts a celeste (middle) pedal which allows the player to lower the volume of the piano for more private and discrete playing.

Like all our pianos offered for sale, this Welmar has been through our workshop and carefully reconditioned, by our highly specialised technicians and comes with our five-year guarantee.
