Kemble - Oxford

Traditional style Upright Piano

We are very proud to offer this upright piano built by Kemble, one of Britain's most notable manufacturers.

The Kemble Piano Company was established in 1911 by Michael Kemble in Stoke Newington, North London. Kemble is recognised for nurturing a piano tone that became distinctively British - warm and rich with a superb dynamic range.

In the 1950's Micheal Kemble's son [Robert Kemble], took over the company and moved production to a state-of-the-art factory in Bletchley, near today's new city of Milton Keynes.
Sales grew very rapidly and the company needed to expand production, which led to a consortium with

Yamaha in 1968.

The Kemble factory was so efficient that the company manufactured instruments for many other iconic British brands under license. The different brands included Broadwood & Sons, Chappell, B.Squire, John Brinsmead and Cramer.

In 1992, Kemble and Co. were granted The Queen's Award for Export Achievement, the only British company in the piano industry to ever receive the accolade.

After stewarding Kemble for many years, Yamaha purchased controlling interest in the Kemble company in 1998.
Kemble pianos from this era boast many Yamaha characteristics, in design and construction, yet retain the favoured British tone.

This Kemble Oxford was manufactured in Kemble's factory here in England c2004 and has enjoyed a life of regular servicing and care. These modern pianos from Kemble offer a full 88 note keyboard, celeste pedal and a nice volume with a balanced, responsive touch, making them brilliant mid-range instruments and fine examples of British piano manufacturing.
